IPv6 in pfSense - Setup and Routing
pfSense provides full IPv6 support alongside IPv4, including static addressing, DHCPv6, SLAAC, tunnel mechanisms, and prefix delegation. Proper IPv6 configuration requires understanding the interaction between the WAN connection type, Router Advertisements on LAN interfaces, and the separate firewall ruleset for IPv6 traffic.
Unlike IPv4, where NAT is standard practice, IPv6 assigns a globally routable address to every device. This raises the importance of the firewall: IPv6 rules are managed as a separate ruleset and require explicit configuration.
